Meet Debbie, Senior Accounting Manager
Debbie has worked at BedMart for over 22 years helping make sure our staff gets paid, invoices are processed, and so much more to keep our business rolling. We interviewed her about her time working at BedMart and here are her responses.
What is the best part of your job?
This is hard to answer because I really do love my job and the people I work with.
Why did you decide to work at BedMart?
The company I was working for sold to a company from North Carolina. Everything changed and I did not like what was going on. I quit and exactly 30 days from that day, Ed hired me.
You’ve worked at BedMart so long. What have you seen change most over the years?
When I started, there were eight stores, of which only three remain of the originals – Airport, Beaverton and Bend. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go. Plus, I have witnessed all the jingles and commercial changes throughout the years. In the old days, we had trips to Vegas and gatherings at Steven’s house, but we were small back then – 36 or so employees. Today we have over 140.
What’s your favorite memory from working here?
On my 50th birthday, Ed and others filled my office with black balloons. And when I say filled, I mean – I couldn’t even walk in the room! LOL — There was a lot of confetti, I’m still finding pieces in my desk drawers. Another favorite time is the last time we went to Vegas. I met Bret Boone who, at the time, was my favorite baseball player. There have been so many memories made at Christmas parties and baseball games, anniversaries, and birthdays. Too many to mention after 22 years (:
What mattress are you currently sleeping on?
My husband and I sleep on a Tempur-Pedic Breeze. I LOVE IT. When I get in it is nice and cool. We also have an adjustable base – something I really miss when we stay in a hotel.
Anything else you want to share?
Over the years, we have had some disagreements but there has never been another boss like Steven Stone. He is like a brother to me – Ed as well. When the time comes and I retire, I will seriously miss these two and I hope they will miss me. They are my family.
