BedMart Mattress Superstores joined Portland Mayor Charlie Hales at the Community Warehouse Furniture Drive to support the Home for Every Veteran Initiative. Saturday was BedMart’s first installment of three Tempur-Pedic mattress donations totaling 200 beds valued at over $35,000.

The Home For Every Veteran Initiative is a citywide effort committed to house all homeless veterans in Portland by the end of 2015. As of 2013, there are over 400 homeless veterans in Multnomah County alone, and housing all is an objective that cannot be achieved without teamwork. As Mayor Charlie Hales states, “to accomplish this, both the private and public sectors must work together to achieve this goal.” Collaboration was attained between BedMart and Community Warehouse, as BedMart’s delivery of 63 out of 200 pledged Tempur-Pedic mattresses was the highlight of the Furniture Drive, which took place at 3969 NE MLK Blvd in Portland.

The Community Warehouse is dedicated to increasing its capacity to serve even more veterans than in years past. Communications Director Rena Satre Meloy describes, “we are committed to helping create more comfortable, functional living spaces so veterans can truly feel at home as they begin a new chapter.”  The Community Warehouse is a local furniture bank that receives donated household goods and redistributes them to vulnerable populations throughout the community.

“We value the commitment that our veterans have made to our country and want to show our respect and appreciation to these dedicated Americans,” says Elana Stone, Vice President of Marketing at BedMart Mattress Superstores. “When we got the call about the Veterans Initiative, we knew we wanted to help assist the city and our community of veterans. BedMart is proud to be able to partner with Tempur-Pedic to donate mattresses and participate in this cause.”

BedMart’s donation of 200 top-quality Tempur-Pedic mattresses is a big step towards achieving the goals of the initiative. “Our armed forces provide peace of mind so all Americans sleep better at night,” says Steven Stone, President of BedMart Mattress Superstores. “We have an obligation to help our homeless veterans have the best night’s sleep possible.”
